Member of Parliament for Trinity-Spadina, Advocate for Child Care, Citizenship and Immigration Critic in the NDP Shadow Cabinet, Olivia boasts a legacy of achievement after decades of public service in Toronto. First elected as a school trustee in 1985, Olivia won election as a Metro Councillor in 1991 – breaking new ground as the first Asian woman elected at the municipal level in Toronto. After Toronto’s amalgamation in 1997, she was elected and re-elected three times as City Councillor for the ward of Trinity-Spadina in downtown Toronto. Olivia Chow became a Member of Parliament on January, 2006 and re-elected in October, 2008. She is the recipient of numerous recognitions including “Women of the Year” from Consumers Choice of Canada and an honourary degree from Ontario College of Art and design. Chair of the Community Services Committee and the Vice Chair of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Olivia gained national recognition for her innovative approaches to programs for children and youth as Toronto’s first Children and Youth Advocate. ROSARIO MARCHESE - MPP TRINITY SPADINA |
Rosario is the member of provincial parliament for the riding of Trinity-Spadina in Toronto, Ontario. First elected in 1990, he was re-elected in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007 His emphasis is on providing access to government to those who have traditionally been underserved. His downtown constituency is home to Toronto’s Chinese, Portuguese and Italian communities, and includes the Financial District, Chinatown, Little Italy, Fashion District. During the NDP government, Rosario served as Minister of Culture. Under his leadership, the ministry provided the single largest funding increase to artists through the Ontario Arts Council, a new publishing strategy was developed, the growing film industry was given stronger support, and concrete steps were taken to improve the status of the artist in Ontario.
